The William G. McGowan Charitable Fund Announces October Grants Awards - $3,487,086

The William G. McGowan Charitable Fund has recently awarded nearly $3,500,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations, targeting an array of causes and communities across the country.

The McGowan Scholars Program accepted eighty-two accredited colleges and universities nationally, providing in excess of $1,370,000 toward tuition for business school students for the 2009-2010 academic year.   Diana Spencer, Executive Director, said that the numerous other awards tackle critical issues specific to our communities like hunger, access to quality healthcare, and quality educational support.

The wide-ranging grants also included funding for medical research, aimed at improving survival rates in patients with heart failure.  The University of Pittsburgh, McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine strives to develop and deliver new treatments and therapies through efforts in artificial organ and medical device development, tissue engineering and biomaterials, and cellular therapies.
