**Please note that the McGowan Fund is not making grant awards in the states of California and Texas. It is no longer included within the Fund's Geographic Guidelines since the foundation does not have members of its Board of Directors residing in those areas.

The McGowan Charitable Fund restricts its grants to the following areas:

1. Northeast Pennsylvania, Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties only
2. Colorado, including Greater Denver Metropolitan area, Eagle and Lake Counties
3. Nevada, including Reno Metropolitan area
4. Illinois, including Chicago Metropolitan, Cook County and the city of Aurora
5. Western and Upstate New York, including Syracuse and Rochester; and *Buffalo -  BY INVITATION ONLY*
6. Kansas, including Kansas City Metropolitan area
7. Washington DC, and Virginia * BY BOARD TRUSTEE INVITATION ONLY *
   

Members of the Board of Directors of the McGowan Charitable Fund play an active role in examining requests for funding from their areas of the country, as well as in assessing the progress of programs which they fund, and in evaluating those programs during and at the end of their grant periods.

This close attention to funding requests assures the best use of assets of the Fund but requires that grants be limited to geographic areas in which members of the Board reside.

These geographic limitations apply to grants to develop the talents and gifts of the young and to medical research requests but they do not apply to colleges and universities seeking McGowan Scholar grants.
